Minor - Katherine Body Modelling #2 - Finished Torso, Arms and Legs

This is the finished mesh for the main bulk of the body, next I'll do the boots and hands and after add in all the details of her outfit.

Minor - Katherine Body Modelling #1 - Torso Start

I've started the rough geometry of the torso. I'm going to do all the rough blocking of the shapes before I start adding the details of clothes. I fear if I get too caught up on that then it will affect the model further down the line.

Minor - Katherine Hair Modelling #2 - Fringe and Blocking the Back Hairs

Its a teeny bit messy but I just need to smooth it out a little and it should look better. I'm unsure how to build the bun. I've been looking at a similar mesh from artstation to help me figure it out. It seems they just throw in a base mesh made from spears and work the strands around that.

Minor - Katherine Hair Modelling #1 - Blocking Out Main Strands

I've started blocking out the fringe of Katherines Hair using a mix of building them plane by plane and lofting nurbs curves. I'm unsure if this is the correct way to do it, but it seems to be working. There's a few discrepancies between views, so I'm trying to mainly stick to the front view for the fringe and the side view for the side pieces of hair.

Minor - Katherine Head Modelling #9 - Eyes, Throat and Fixed Ears

I wouldn't say this is the finished version yet since there are a few things that need to be cleaned (lips and eyes mostly) and I also need to add the eyelashes and hair. The hair I'm more confident with since I've been studying different ways to make it, but with the eyelashes, I'm unsure of where to start.

For now, I'm going to start on the hair for the model and also make a start on the body mesh.

Minor - Katherine Head Modelling #8 - Ear and Neck

After following a mix of the Ear and Neck Tutorial (2016), the Cartoon Ear Tutorial (2012) and the Realistic Ear Tutorial (2004), I've completed what I think is a fairly accurate ear. It could use some work (particularly in the lower area), but until I do further sculpting later I like how it looks.

Nostrils

Alan kindly fixed up the geometry issues my model was having and with the geometry fixed I decided to resculpt a few areas to get a better likeness. I mostly changed the nose to fit better with Katherine's concept art and orthographs. She still has nostrils, but they're much less exaggerated to fit better with my style.

Minor - Look Dev #1

I've started looking into how I want my film to look. I've looked at other shows, animated videos, how I can translate my line style to 3d etc.

What I've decided I want is a mix of the K/DA music video texture style, but with the line style of RWBY. I've also found examples of other artists work that's similar to this too and made a mood board.

Extra References:

I've started doing some concept busts of Katherine on how I'll accomplish this. So far I've only done the skin painting to figure out how that could look, and I'll move onto the hair then the clothes after.

So far in my model, I don't think I'm conveying what I need to accomplish this, especially the nose. As mentioned last year I have aphantasia, and viewing things in a 3D space in my mind's eye is very difficult since I can't see it. So a lot of the 3D stuff is guesswork and experimenting. However, I'll keep playing around with the model and with the look dev, and keep studying different meshes and models on artstation to understand further how it all works.

As things move forward this direction may change, and a lot of the look dev probably won't happen until I start texturing my finished Model.

Minor - Katherine Expression Chart

@Alan - Minor - Katherine Head Modelling #6 - Nose

The nose to me is looking very wonky, and I'm not sure how I like the nostrils as part of it. Where I was following the JPJ tutorial there's a kink in the middle of the nose which causes bumps in smoothed view. All in all its not exactly how I would like the nose to be and I may end up either re-doing it a different way or just playing around with the geometry more till I get something I like.

There's also a lot of elongated faces in the face as a whole which I'm unsure how to fix. I'll keep following the tutorials for now though.

Minor - Katherine Character Sketches

Minor - Katherine Sword Further Palette Exploration

1-5 from previous post, 6-10 are new with silver placed into the palette.

Apart from Katherine 10 and 5 looked the strongest, but when I put them next to her it looked very off to me like something should be darker. So I tried some of the darker palettes from the bunch.

6 and 2 looked much better next to her. 2 being my favourite. For the final palette, I just changed the colours of the feathers to the teal colour to match all her other feathers and it really changed the weapon into something signature for Katherine.

Minor - Katherine Head Modelling #5 - Eye

Front

Side

There are a few bits that are concerning me about the eye, such as the long faces that have happened as a result of moving around the geometry, and the corners of the eye having tram lines. But its something I'm hoping will be fixed as I move on and keep working. Other than those few things I'm pretty happy with the shape of the eye from both views.
