Minor - The World of Solumna Title page

Started working on my art of today. I decided to call it "The World of Solumna". I tried to make the font look like it had been stamped on with ink and smudged a little. I also included my new logo branding made by Jake J Bryant (changed very slightly to fit with the theming of this title page).

Minor - Katherine's Ship

Model Progress
Reference

I wasn't making very good progress in designing my ship from scratch. I wasn't happy with any of the designs I did so I decided to make a quick silhouette and design as I model it. Which I know isn't the best practice, but it's allowing me to work much quicker on my ship and I can make design adjustments as I go.

The size of the stairs seem a little off to me, but its something I can fix further down the line.

Minor - Katherine Skinning - Head, Torso and Hands Binding and Blending

I tried my best with the binding and blending for this, but I think the spine could use a bit more work. I'm pretty happy with the hands and I think they're pretty even all the way across.

Minor - Katherine Skinning - Leg Binding and Blending

I ran into problems wih skinning initially. Maya seemed to crash whenever I'd try and go into smoothed view while selecting verts to flood, so I had to do it all in non-smoothed view. The leg is the same on the other side. I'm going to do all the base mesh first (legs, torso, hands, head) and then add in the details one by one.

Minor - Alekos - Secondary Protagonist Character Design

initial exploration 1-4

 initial exploration 5-9

 palette exploration a 1 - 3
palette exploration b 1 - 3

palette exploration c 1 - 3

palette exploration d 1 - 3

In terms of my Grimm character, I want him to be the leader of a desert tribe. He'll be slim and agile and mostly likely fight using knives. His clothes are lightweight to deal with the harsh desert environment. In terms of the palette, I'm leaning toward a3 and d3, but feedback is appreciated.

Minor - Look Dev #2 - aiToon Tests

 Base Toons
 Lighter Colors
 Corrected ramps
 Darker Skin tones
 Fixed Eyes

Spent some time working with the aiToon shader in Arnold to achieve the look I want. I've come pretty close to it with these initial tests. I'm going to play around with the hair a little more to add some slight specular so it's not as matte looking. But for now, I'm pretty happy with how this is looking.

I used mainly the base and specular properties of the aiToons and lit the scene with a skydome connected to a physical sky shader.

Minor - Katherine Flat Textures

Flat textures are done for Katherine ready for me to paint and add definition. (Flat Shading is on so I could scope out any minor texture hiccups before I go forward)

@Alan - Minor - Built Skeleton

I'm unsure if I've built the spine, head and thumb correctly. I'm about 60% sure I have, but I'd like to make sure before I continue with binding the mesh.

Minor - Finished Katherine UV Layout

Top Row: Hair Fringe, Hair Back, Hat, Necklace
Bottom Row: Head/Face, Shirt, Trousers, Boots.

I'm now going to switch between working on the textures and rigging for this model.

Minor - Model Fixes and Hat Model

More Volume to neck

Curve to spine

Less gravity on sleeve

Added Belt to leg as per her design

I think the Hat looks okay, but the feather looks very wrong and since I'm not sure how to go about building it correctly.

@Alan - Minor - Katherine Body Modelling #5 - Finished Model and Details

Minor - Katherine Hair Modelling #3 - Finished Hair and Eyelash

I think I've now finished the hair. I'm pretty happy with how it came out. There may need a few pieces that need some work (like the bulk of the hair going into the bun). I've also added in the eyelash for the eye.

@Alan - Minor - Step Outline

- View of the door to captains quarters, behind the camera the crew are busy setting sail.

- Door slams open and Katherine steps out angrily.

- View of her shoes as she walks across the ship to the stern. Silhouettes of the crew are silent as they watch her.

- She stops at the wheel, pans up to her face. She looks angry. While panning she adjusts her coat and hat annoyed.

- Fullbody shot of her as she spins the wheel of the ship, the ship turns sharply.

"Alright, you sorry lot! Her Majesty the Queen (said mockingly) has a new mission for us. So it seems we're headed to Ortus! buckle up. Its gonna be a bumpy ride.

- Wide shot of the ship as it sails away, the camera pans up to look at the ship from above.

- The camera keeps pulling away and view fades into a full shot of the map. Title card SOLUMNA pans in.

Minor - Katherine Sword Progress

The sword guard needs a lot of work since it looks too flimsy and like it could fall apart any second. I'm unsure how to fix it though since I've built it a few times now with different ways of starting and had the same results each time.
