Hey Annie - a very enjoyable OGR - I enjoyed your travelogue - I want to visit Neemia! I'm happy you found your 'way in' to your artist, as I know you were feeling a bit indifferent to begin with. I really like the journey you've taken here, and I love some of those delicate water thumbnails. I think all I say is make sure that the organicism of your shell influence doesn't over-power the way in which Gabo sort of reduces his shapes even further: his work is certainly organic, but it isn't 'wibbly-wobbly' (technical term there!) or haphazard; there's a sense of structure and purity of form - so just keep that aspect in mind too - certainly as it relates to architectural forms.
One other thing then - as you now think about your concept art for the view of this city you're going to share with us, think about 'why' you're sharing that particular view. Is there a special site, building or space that is especially illustrative of Neemia? Think about this element as your 'hero prop' - the building or element that has the most detail and visual prestige - the way the Sidney Opera House is used as shorthand for 'Sidney'. Is there a sort of building or element that Gabo would be especially interested in and why? Answering this question will ensure your digital set is design-led - i.e. you're showing us this particular view with good reason. Something to think about.
Re.those film reviews - for me, the true goal is you feeling more comfortable about watching, reading, researching and thinking; try and get them into perspective - short weekly exercises in practicing your technique - in no way different to an animation exercise or maya tutorial - it's just more of the stuff you need to achieve fabulously!
