Personal - UV and Texture Commission #1

A few days ago I got asked to edit the mesh, rig, uvs and textures of a preexisting model, and add some extra parts onto it to fit with the up to date design of the character.

I am working on this bit by bit whenever I find a 10 minute break through the days. I'm using a program i'm not familiar with to edit the exisiting mesh and rig and then doing the rest in maya.

Original Model.
The mesh was just coloured straight on with no textures or uvs.

Sorted Mesh into logical parts for new UVs.

Edited hair separately into logical parts for new UVs.

Personal - Music Video

A few weeks ago I started development of my own vocal synth with helpful advice from the studio I volunteer from. I edited this video together of a cover of a Japanese vocal synth song.

cover settings - yusukekira
vocal synth - voiced, edited and managed by myself
vocal mixing - myself
original song - giga-p and reol
art - outsourced from emimelon
video - myself

It took about a week of work to finish this video and it was a fun ride messing with effects and such. I'm happy with how it came out.

Personal - Messing in After Effects

Today I decided to experiment a little with adobe after effects 3d settings. So I built a simple room, added some lighting and a camera, and proceeded to mess around a little. Making the room was difficult, but I got the hang of it by the end.

I then imported one of the drawings I'd done and moved it back in the scene, making sure the foot touches the floor or the 3d scene, and that the lighting is in a correct place for the shadows to fall.

Then I simply played around with the camera, moving it in the scene using the properties and also within the scene itself. There are a lot of possibilities for video making within these tools, and once you get the hang of them it's actually quite simple.

Personal - Vocal Synth Designs

Since I joined the vocal synth studio as a volunteer, I've been experimenting with the same program they use to make my own vocal synth characters. I probably won't take them too far. But I'll try to develop one and see how it goes. These are the characters I have for now, plus different Modules for different "voice types".

Personal - Pride Month Studio work

For the last few weeks, I've been working with an Indie "vocal synth" studio called Studio Ogien to produce this Pride art in celebration of Pride Month. The work I do for this studio is completely voluntary for now, but its good to expand my horizons in the future. They also gave me permission to upload this to my blog.

The criteria for the piece was a lighthearted mood, showcasing the four main girls of the group. I put forward the idea of a Pride festival, with the four main girls celebrating a "teaser" of one of the new girls (which is in the form of a finger covering the lens) and I also asked the other members of the studio, if they wanted their own characters put in the background to flesh the scene out. I also planned the scene out to be like a snapchat photo.

Personal - Doodle a Day #5 & #6

I didn't draw much today and yesterday. I've come down with something and so my bed was my only friend. But I did manage to do some emblem designs and start to design weapons for one of the characters I've shown.

Personal - Doodle a Day #4

Today I decided to redraw a piece I did in August of 2016. It's definitely nice to see how far I've come since then, and I feel my style has become much more coherent since then.

Personal - Doodle a Day #3

Today I did a before and after of a character, I've had for years now. I figured it was about time for a much needed revamp. I'm not completely happy with how she turned out, but for a quick exercise I'm pretty happy with it.

I also did a quick character doodle of one of my friend's characters as well. I wanted to focus on body language in this doodle and I think I did very well.

Personal - Doodle a Day #2

Another quick redesign for today. I really love how this one came out. Her original design from 8 months ago was based on this one image of a Starling I found. Which was really restrictive as a basis for redesigning this character, but it was a fun challenge.

I think tomorrow I'll work on a few weapon design concepts for the characters I've redesigned lately and see how well I do with that!

Personal - Doodle a Day #1

I've decided to try and do a doodle a day from now until term 2 of this course. Here are todays! Just some revamped character designs of old characters. I think my art has developed a fair bit since the start of the year, and I'm happy it has! I hope to improve a lot more next year too.

Personal - Work from previous course

Thought I'd upload a few pieces of work I was doing before I transferred here. Our unit over on my previous course was about Social and Cultural Context. We basically had to make a Leporello book illustrating how people are social outcasts. However, we weren't learning any of the fundamentals of storytelling or character design, or even environments. We haven't even learned any animation (which is one thing we were promised to do there.), which is why I decided to transfer to this course!
