Premise - New Idea

While strugglng to get to sleep last night I started thinking more about how I could show Aphantasia through animation. And I figured I could make it a character. I could show me, aphantasia and depression as characters. Introduce the two as my ‘friends’ and explain how they’re not very good friends. Show how they work together and how they do what they do through the metaphor of them being real people.

Though its not very representative of what i want to do as a career, i thought i should document it just in case.

  1. Hey Annie,

So I think this idea of personifying Aphantasia is pretty interesting and worth exploring further. You need to be careful I think about depression - or rather another person's depression needs deft handling or it can become the 'Brexit' of undergraduate films... in other words, a bit of a thematic turn-off. Like Brexit, depression is an important issue, I'm just saying 'out there' it's been done to death and I think it might work against you - rightly or wrongly.

So, I'm fascinated by Aphantasia - it's like an anti-Muse...

Aphantasia sounds almost exactly like some Greek muse - a forgotten daughter of Zeus and Mnemosyne - poor thing!

The thing I'm interested in therefore, is 'from where' do the images and imaginings you create come from? How, as an artist, do you 'jump-start' your mind's eye - you obviously have means and methods for visualising, otherwise your blog would be pretty empty!

Another question for you: if you had to 'defend' and 'prosecute' Aphantasia... how might you defend her - what I mean is... what is her gift to people who have it? What benefits does she bestow? Thinking about her/it in this way might be fascinating too. It's obvious you want to create a character-based project, and I can't help thinking that Aphantasia is a really lovely idea... my advice, go research the concept of 'inspiration personified' - so muses etc in the first instance :)

(there is a version of this where you decide your muses are Aphantasia, Katáthlipsi and so on... but the really important thing about this I'd suggest is you seek to argue them as muses, so forces in support of your creativity or rather, as valuable to the work you make?)

    1. As much as I like this idea its not very representative of what I want to do career wise and while I appreciate your feedback, I would much rather love to do a character design project somehow. My other ideas in my previous premise post were things I would love to work on, but I can't figure out ways to develop them. Its funny too because I thought that premise would grow to be my strongest project but now that I can't think of anything i'm excited about that you and alan also like i'm struggling.
